Andy in 3 words: Hardworking, Nice, Stubborn

Andy is a Junior Fellow from North Side High School. He is a bright and motivated student with a strong passion for Computer Science and Engineering. Actively involved in the Mayor’s Youth Council, Andy is eager to connect with others in the community and hopes to become more engaged in local efforts. His academic interests span math, foreign languages, and computer science, and he has aspirations to become an aerospace engineer, pursue a major in computer science, and learn an Asian language.

The most inspiring people in Andy’s life are his parents. He also credits his teacher, Ms. Young, as a major influence—she introduced him to STEM, sparking his desire to pursue a career in aerospace engineering.

Andy describes himself as hardworking, nice, and stubborn, with his greatest strength being his ability to focus intently on a subject until his work is complete. This tenacity is one of his key superpowers and fuels his success in academics and beyond.

He sees his neighborhood as a friendly place where people often help each other. However, Andy believes that the biggest challenge for the people in Jackson is the lack of opportunities in various fields of study. He feels that more opportunities would help people find passion and develop a stronger workforce. On a personal level, Andy identifies the cost of college being a big barrier for some people after high school.

Andy sees the Jackson community as resilient and capable of coming together to solve problems and raise awareness on important community issues. However, he also notes that some individuals face their challenges alone without receiving the support they need. As a behind-the-scenes coordinator, Andy is ready to contribute to making the community stronger, using his focus and problem-solving skills to make a lasting impact.

“I am determined not to give up until my work is fully accomplished.”
